Council Member Edward Pollard Launches DistrictJJobs.com
Council Member Edward Pollard’s office held a press conference to announce the launch of DistrictJJobs.com, a website that offers tools to job seekers to find employment with local companies.
Pollard’s office as partnered with METRO to provide signage at each of the sheltered bus stops within District J. The signs will be adhered to the shelter and will include a QR code riders can scan with their cell phones to easily access the website and connect to businesses with available opportunities.
As Houston begins to transition out of the pandemic, Pollard believes access to quality job opportunities is essential to the overall economic stability of families and the city at large. Houston has seen a spike in crime during the pandemic, which Pollard links to a lack of employment. The District J Jobs website gives residents a quick and easy option to finding employment without having to go to a job fair or other career source. Riders can simply hold their phone up to the QR code to be taken to the website.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, many Houstonians lost their jobs, and some, who may have already been stretched financially, faced financial ruin due to being unemployed or underemployed. It is my hope that this effort will help get people back on their feet and back to work,” Pollard said. “Traditionally, METRO riders live in some of the city’s most vulnerable and underserved communities, but through the technology of smartphones and QR codes, riders will be able to access nearby jobs at their fingertips.”
In addition to using the QR code, job seeks can also access the website through traditional methods by visiting DistrictJJobs.com.
